Rapid Prototyping Laboratory

The Rapid Prototyping laboratory is based on rapid prototyping equipment operating by selective sintering with laser, for metal and plastic powders.

It roduces parts and prototypes for research, development and innovation activities and it provides design, execution and consulting services for plastic / metal prototypes for external orders. The geometries approached can be complex in nature, created directly in CAD files, then reproduced with high accuracy and high resolution, with a surface quality and mechanical properties similar to those obtained by applying a conventional technology.

Main RDI projects:
• Past R&D activities have focused on the medical, aerospace and automotive industries. Examples of manufacturing and testing parts can be found in the project Digitech Program PN-III-P1.-1.2-PCCDI-2017-0224 nr. contract no. 77/2018, ”Implementation of additive technologies in the manufacture of complex and overloaded components ”, Beneficiary: INCDMTM, Period: 2018-2021;
• RDI activities in the aerospace field, carried out within the project Research-Development-Innovation Program for Space Technology and Advanced Research - STAR, "Evaluation of 3D printing technology for turbopump rotor manufacturing" - "3D printing technology evaluation for turbopump rotor manufacturing" - 3dRotor) ”, Beneficiary: COMOTI, period: 2017-2018.

Currently, the laboratory is part of Digi-Center network, a partnership between instituții de cercetare și universități, care își propune:

- to support activities aimed to promote additive technologies;
- to create a technology platform that will allow companies to access advanced manufacturing technologies;
- to allow the transfer of scientific results to the economic and industrial environment;
- to offer new perspectives for the field of health, especially for cranio-maxillofacial and orthopedic surgery;
- to offer internships for engineering university students and to allow the active use of additive technology in the education and training process.

The Rapid Prototyping laboratory works closely with the Biomechatronics laboratory and the Biosensors and biomaterials investigation microsystems laboratory, offering complete RDI services for the realization and testing of medical implants, testing for static / dynamic tests of parts and diagnosis and medical recovery for locomotor diseases.
